Brazil's 'farmar aura' trend leads to public gatherings and first championship
A viral internet phrase, "farmar aura," has moved from social‑media videos to real‑world meet‑ups across Brazil. In the state of Maranhão, especially in the Greater São Luís area, adolescents and young adults are converging in plazas and public squares to perform short, stylized poses and gestures, seeking peer approval and social‑media notoriety.
The craze spread further south, culminating in the first official "Campeonato de Farmar Aura" in Cuiabá. Held on Friday, 24 May, at Parque das Águas, participants had 60 seconds on stage to showcase intensity, originality and perceived “energy.” A jury awarded cash prizes of R$ 100, R$ 50 and a small token for the top three performers. The event was organized by influencer Cléo Astro, who said the competition aims to give young people a public space for self‑expression beyond nightlife or internet screens.
The phenomenon traces its roots to a viral Indonesian video and a meme soundtrack known as “Six Seven,” which have been repurposed by Brazilian youth as a social game where points of “aura” are earned or lost based on charisma and style.
