Brazil's Federal Police announces firearms instructor accreditation

The Brazilian Federal Police (Polícia Federal) has released accreditation notices for firearms and shooting instructors across seven state superintendencies: Rio de Janeiro, Paraíba, Piauí, Maranhão, Bahia, Ceará, and São Paulo.

Under the Disarmament Statute (Law No. 10.826/2003), accredited instructors are required to certify the technical capacity of individuals seeking authorization to purchase firearms. The accreditation process is free of charge, remains valid for four years, and takes up to 90 days from application to result.

Candidates must pass four mandatory elimination exams: a written test of up to 100 questions, a shooting test involving 40 shots with a revolver and a pistol, a practical test requiring the assembly and disassembly of a revolver, pistol, and 12-gauge shotgun, and an oral exam. In São Paulo, registration closed on August 28, 2026, with exams scheduled for early December.
