Alexandre de Moraes authorizes searches against journalist sources and rules on Bolsonaro weapons

Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes has authorized Federal Police operations targeting individuals identified as sources for journalist Luís Pablo. The investigation follows reports regarding the use of official vehicles by the family of Minister Flávio Dino. The operations include search and seizure warrants against Raimundo Cutrim, a former Maranhão government secretary, and Diogo Diniz Lima. The Federal Police are investigating allegations that Cutrim used restricted access systems to obtain information and footage for the journalist. This development has sparked significant concern among press freedom organizations, including ABERT, ANJ, and ANER, who warn of potential violations of journalistic source confidentiality.

Separately, the Federal Police have requested that Minister Moraes decide on the final destination of ten firearms and related ammunition seized from former President Jair Bolsonaro. The weapons were confiscated following the revocation of his firearms permit and CAC registration in July. The Federal Police stated they lack the authority to determine the disposition of the items because the seizures were made via judicial order rather than through a standard criminal investigation. The arsenal, which includes various pistols, rifles, and shotguns, remains in custody in Brasília pending a court ruling.
