Brazil's FIES program opens enrollment for private universities for second semester
The Ministry of Education (MEC) issued Edital No. 40, setting the schedule for private higher‑education institutions to join the Federal Student Financing Fund (FIES) for the second semester. Institutions must submit course, shift, location, tuition and discount details through the SISFIES platform between 8 June and 15 June 2026, with a correction window from 16 June to 22 June.
The deadline targets university maintainers, not students, and aims to define the pool of courses that will later be offered to eligible low‑income students. Eligibility for students requires participation in ENEM, a minimum score of 450 points, and a non‑zero essay grade. The program provides lower‑interest loans and extended repayment periods for private‑sector degrees. Additional requirements include a minimum of five financed slots per course and compliance with quality measures, such as those linked to poor ENEM performance in medical courses.
