Brazil extends Fies enrollment deadline to July 19

The Ministry of Education (MEC) has prolonged the registration period for the 2026 second‑semester round of the Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (Fies) to 23:59 BRT on Sunday, 19 July. The program offers a total of 112,168 slots nationwide in 2026, with 44,867 reserved for the second semester. Eligibility requires participation in the ENEM since 2010, a minimum average of 450 points, a non‑zero essay score, and a family per‑capita income of up to three minimum wages (≈ R$ 4,863). Half of the vacancies are allocated to the Fies Social modality for students whose per‑capita income does not exceed half a minimum wage and who are registered in the Cadastro Único.

The selection results will be published on 30 July. Pre‑selected candidates must complete their registration between 31 July and 4 August, while the waiting‑list call‑up will occur from 7 August to 24 September. A recent CMN resolution changed the grace‑period rules: only the principal amount is covered by the grace period, and unpaid interest may be capitalised. All applications are processed exclusively through the Portal Único de Acesso ao Ensino Superior.
