Brazil's fuel prices dip in June but Espírito Santo stays costliest in Southeast

The Edenred Ticket Log Index shows that fuel prices fell across Brazil in the first half of June. Ethanol recorded the sharpest drop at 4.98%, falling to R$ 4.39 per litre, while diesel fell 2.5% to R$ 7.02 and diesel S‑10 slipped 1.49% to R$ 7.25. Gasoline declined modestly by 0.44% to R$ 6.80, and natural‑gas vehicle fuel (GNV) rose 0.90% to R$ 4.47.

A federal proposal to raise the mandatory ethanol blend in gasoline from 30% to 32% (E32) is slated for review by the National Energy Policy Council, aiming to cut dependence on imported fossil fuels and improve energy security.

Despite the national trend, the state of Espírito Santo remains the most expensive in Brazil's Southeast region. Gasoline there is R$ 6.77 per litre, diesel R$ 7.35, and ethanol R$ 5.15, all above the regional averages. The gasoline‑ethanol price ratio in Espírito Santo stays above the 0.70 threshold, keeping gasoline the cheaper option for drivers in the state.
