Brazil's Goiás Election Court Upholds PT Councilors' Mandates in Goiânia

On 23 June 2024, the Tribunal Regional Eleitoral de Goiás (TRE‑GO) unanimously rejected a challenge alleging gender‑quota fraud and confirmed the validity of the Federation Brazil of Hope’s candidacies (PT, PCdoB, PV) in the 2024 municipal elections for Goiânia. The court’s 7‑0 vote kept the seats of PT councilors Fabrício Rosa, Edward Madureira and Kátia Maria intact, preserving the current composition of the city’s legislative bench.

The ruling affirmed that there was insufficient evidence to prove any irregularities in the female candidates’ participation, thereby maintaining the elected officials’ mandates and reinforcing the legitimacy of the voters’ choice in the capital of Goiás.
