Brazil's 'Governo do Brasil na Rua' brings social services to Southern cities

The federal "Governo do Brasil na Rua" outreach program dispatched mobile service units to the southern states of Brazil, offering free assistance in Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul) and Florianópolis (Santa Catarina). In Porto Alegre, the event at Praça da Alfândega provided around 479 individual appointments, including medical examinations, social assessments for the Benefício de Prestação Continuada, legal, health, dental, banking and financial guidance. The Ministry of Racial Equality coordinated the effort, with staff addressing inquiries from migrants, quilombola groups, Romani communities and others about quotas and anti‑racism policies.

The program also coincided with the INSS reopening the São Gabriel agency and opening a new office in São Sebastião do Caí, expanding local access to pension and benefit services. Future "Governo do Brasil na Rua" visits are scheduled for São Paulo (26‑27 June), Cuiabá (1 July) and Manaus (3 July).
