Brazil's lower house committee backs national agroforestry policy

The Chamber of Deputies' Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development Committee approved Bill 6011/25, creating the National Policy for Stimulating the Implementation of Agroforestry Systems (PNA‑SAF). The policy aims to restore degraded lands, boost farm incomes and integrate agribusiness with forest conservation across the Amazon, Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.

Key provisions include new credit lines with lower interest rates, the Agroflor Brazil seal to market sustainable products, a National Registry of Agroforestry Systems to track area, families and carbon sequestration, and priority access for INCRA settlements and extractive reserves. Training programs for technical and extension staff are also mandated. The bill now proceeds to the Environment, Finance and Constitution committees before requiring approval by the full Chamber and the Senate to become law.
