Brazil's Magé and Portugal's Almada Boost Water Supply

In Magé, Brazil, a project by Águas do Rio upgraded the water distribution network, adding new pipelines and expanding the capacity of the municipal treatment plant. The works now serve about 18,000 residents across thirteen neighborhoods, and the concessionaire says the improvements will strengthen water security for the town. "The water is essential for the treatment of patients and, with the regular supply, we can keep all the machines operating with more peace of mind," said local resident Cleiton de Lima, who maintains equipment at the city’s nephrology centre.

In Almada, Portugal, municipal authorities accelerated the commissioning of a new water intake well to increase supply by roughly 20% after a major pipe rupture left several zones without water in early July. The emergency measures included nightly water cuts for up to 15 neighborhoods to rebuild reservoir levels. The new well, brought online ahead of schedule, is intended to stabilise the system and prevent further shortages.
