Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul pushes law to disclose legislative travel expenses

The Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul (ALEMS) introduced Bill 103/2026, which would require every travel expense funded by the state to be published individually on official websites. The rule obliges agencies to list the beneficiary’s name, destination, purpose and period of the trip, and mandates full reimbursement of any irregular spending by politicians, civil servants or military personnel.

Separate reporting shows that federal deputies’ trips to the "Gilmarpalooza" conference, organized by Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes, have cost the public treasury about R$330 000. The expense has sparked debate over the necessity of such travel and intensified calls for stricter transparency of parliamentary spending.
