Brazil's Ministry of Education urges Fies waitlist candidates to act by Friday

The Ministry of Education (MEC) has issued a final call for candidates on the wait‑list of the Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (Fies) to confirm their interest by Friday, 29 May 2026. The recruitment period began on 15 May and covers the remaining seats for the first semester of 2026. Applicants must have the ability to meet the minimum attendance requirement for the semester, as the financing contracts must be signed within the first six months.

Selection is based on descending scores from the National High School Examination (Enem), giving priority to candidates who have never received Fies funding and those without a university degree. Once called, candidates must log in to the Portal Único de Acesso ao Ensino Superior using their Gov.br credentials, validate their data and submit required documentation to the Permanent Supervision and Monitoring Commission of the private institution that pre‑selected them. After institutional validation, the financing bank must approve the contract within ten business days.

Applicants qualifying for the Fies Social tier (family income up to half the minimum wage, R$ 810.50) are exempted from income verification. For further information, candidates can contact MEC at 0800‑616161.
