Brazil Approves R$ 3.5 trillion Energy Expansion Plan 2035

The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) signed a decree approving the Decennial Energy Expansion Plan (PDE 2035), outlining Brazil’s energy strategy for the next ten years. Developed by the Energy Research Company (EPE), the plan projects a cumulative investment of roughly R$ 3.5 trillion to boost generation capacity from about 255 GW today to around 367 GW by 2035. Over half of the country’s energy supply is expected to come from renewable sources, reaching 51 % of total generation, while renewables are slated to provide more than 85 % of electricity. The plan also integrates goals for a just and inclusive energy transition, addressing energy poverty, climate‑change adaptation, and social inclusion. Minister Alexandre Silveira highlighted the plan’s role in guiding public‑private investment, enhancing competitiveness, and ensuring a low‑carbon, resilient energy system.
