Brazil's National Teacher Exam selects over 10,000 educators
The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) has reported that more than 10,000 teachers have been selected for state and municipal public school networks using scores from the first edition of the National Teacher Exam (PND).
Known colloquially as the ‘Enem for Teachers,’ the inaugural exam saw approximately 760,118 candidates attend the testing. Of these participants, 65%—roughly 492,000 individuals—reached the required proficiency level. This pool of qualified professionals exceeds the country’s estimated annual demand for new teachers, which is approximately 118,000.
The program is expanding for its second edition. For the 2026 cycle, the PND has secured participation from over 2,000 federal entities, including 85% of Brazilian states and 96% of state capitals. The second edition recently conducted exams across 806 cities to evaluate 21 different teaching licensure areas.
