Brazil's Northeast Targets R$77 bn Low‑Carbon Investment via Powershoring Forum
The Powershoring Forum, created by the Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS), Banco do Brasil and the Consórcio Nordeste, released a Commitment Letter in Brasília outlining a plan to attract R$77 billion in low‑carbon, energy‑intensive industrial investments between 2026 and 2030. The initiative seeks to convert the region’s renewable‑energy advantage—91% of Brazil’s wind capacity and 42% of its solar capacity—into concrete economic and social development.
An unprecedented study commissioned by the Consórcio Nordeste estimates that the strategy could add R$58 billion per year to the regional GDP, generate about 350,000 direct and indirect jobs, boost exports by R$39 billion annually and increase public tax revenue by R$17 billion. Victoria Santos, energy and industry manager at iCS, said the forum aims to “accelerate the energy transition, create quality jobs and strengthen the country’s competitiveness.” Maria Netto, executive director of iCS, highlighted renewable energy as a valuable asset for Brazil’s global competitiveness.
