Brazil's Pix Pensão Law Aims to Automate Alimony Payments
Law No. 15.479/2026, known as “Pix Pensão,” authorises judges to order automatic debit of alimony through the Pix system, moving payments directly from the debtor’s account to the beneficiary on scheduled dates. The measure is intended to curb delinquency, reduce repeated court petitions and speed up the delivery of funds to children and other dependents.
Legal experts note limitations: asset‑hiding loopholes and the lack of a mechanism to track debtors who change jobs may still require judicial action. Thais Precoma Guimarães of the Instituto Brasileiro de Direito de Família said, “O Pix Pensão evitará petições sucessivas… mas se o devedor mudar de emprego e não informar, ainda será necessário entrar com medidas para localizar a empresa onde ele trabalha.” Graziela Jurça Fanti suggested a national registry of payers to close the gap.
