Michelle Bolsonaro clashes with Bolsonaro sons over PL alliance with Ciro Gomes in Ceará

The ex‑first lady Michelle Bolsonaro has repeatedly criticized Ciro Gomes and the Liberal Party’s (PL) plan to ally with him in the upcoming Ceará gubernatorial race. She posted videos and comments on social media asserting that the alliance would betray the Bolsonaro family and denouncing Ciro’s remarks that Brazil’s president Lula and former president Jair Bolsonaro are "the same".

Her sons – Eduardo, Flávio, Carlos and Jair Renan – responded publicly, defending the strategic partnership. PL state leader André Fernandes said the party will maintain its support for Ciro Gomes, arguing the deal secures a Senate vote for an amnesty project linked to Jair Bolsonaro and helps defeat the PT in the state. Fernandes added that the alliance will not be swayed by Michelle’s objections.

The dispute, which began in late 2025, highlights a broader rift within the Bolsonaro camp over electoral tactics. Michelle promised to release a video explaining her position, while the PL continues to pursue the Ceará alliance as part of its broader effort to challenge the ruling left‑wing coalition.
