The exchange turned heated over public security; Freitas accused Gomes of allowing the criminal organization Comando Vermelho to ‘plant the seed’ in the state during his 1993 governorship. Freitas defended his administration by citing the incarceration of 5,000 faction members in 2025. Gomes countered by criticizing the management of the military police and the lack of public examinations for delegates between 2015 and 2025.
