Brazil's President Lula signs law establishing National Wine Day

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned Law 15.460/2026 on 8 July 2026, creating a National Wine Day to be celebrated annually on the first Sunday of June, with the inaugural event slated for 2027. The legislation, originating from a 2004 bill proposed by Deputy Paulo Pimenta, passed the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate after more than two decades of consideration.

The new holiday aims to strengthen Brazil’s grape and wine production chain, promote responsible consumption, and boost enotourism. State and municipal governments may organize fairs, festivals, and promotional partnerships, while the Ministry of Agriculture will develop national outreach plans. The measure recognises the sector’s growth across traditional areas such as the Serra Gaúcha and emerging regions including Santa Catarina, Paraná, Pernambuco, Bahia and Minas Gerais.
