Overview

In early July 2026 Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula signed legislation creating a National Wine Day, marking the first official recognition of a wine‑focused holiday in the country.

Later that month, Portugal announced the creation of a National Day of Vine and Wine to be observed each year on July 31. The decree, signed by Agriculture and Sea Minister José Manuel Fernandes, emphasized wine's economic, cultural and social significance. The Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (IVV) was tasked with coordinating celebrations and launching a new wine portal, following a strong performance in 2025 that saw 169,663 ha of vineyards produce 595.6 million liters of wine and export over 350 million liters.

Both moves reflect a growing trend among wine‑producing nations to formalise and promote their viticultural heritage through dedicated national holidays.
