Brazil's Prouni program opens free second‑semester registrations

Free registrations for the second semester of the Programa Universidade para Todos (Prouni) begin on Tuesday, 7 July and run through Friday, 10 July. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the Ministry of Education’s Portal Único de Acesso ao Ensino Superior (single‑access portal). The federal program offers full‑tuition (100 %) and partial (50 %) scholarships at private higher‑education institutions.

Eligibility requires completion of high school and participation in the 2024 or 2025 ENEM, with a minimum average of 450 points and a non‑zero essay score. Candidates must meet at least one socioeconomic condition – public‑school attendance, private‑school scholarship status, mixed schooling, or be persons with disabilities. Income limits apply: per‑capita family income up to 1.5 minimum wages for full scholarships and up to 3 minimum wages for partial scholarships. Teachers in public schools seeking licentiate or pedagogy courses are exempt from the income ceiling. ENEM “training” participants are ineligible.

The selection uses the best ENEM score, and candidates choose between general competition and affirmative‑action slots for people with disabilities, Indigenous, Black or mixed‑race candidates. Results of the first call will be posted on 15 July, the second call on 5 August, with a wait‑list period on 26‑27 August and final results on 1 September. Unifacisa University announced 54 full‑scholarship slots for the semester, illustrating the program’s role in expanding university access nationwide.
