Brazil's Receita Federal Allows Refunds for Missed IR Cashback Recipients
The Receita Federal announced that roughly 500,000 taxpayers who were excluded from the special "cashback" IR refund because they lacked a Pix key can still receive their money. Affected individuals must file a 2025 Individual Income Tax return, which can be submitted through the e‑CAC portal, and may receive the payment via a newly created Pix key or a bank account of their choice. No penalty applies for filing after the deadline if the taxpayer was not previously required to declare; the 2025 return can be filed until 31 December 2029, while returns for earlier years are accepted within a five‑year window but may incur a fine.
Separately, on 31 July 2026 the third regular refund lot was released, covering 2.743 million refunds worth a total of R$ 4.61 billion. This lot prioritises seniors, people with disabilities, teachers and those who used pre‑filled returns or opted for Pix. Refunds can be delayed if the declaration contains inconsistencies, such as outdated bank data or issues with a Pix key, which places the amount in the tax‑authority’s “malha fina” until corrected.
