Brazil's Receita Federal issues record R$16 billion tax refund batch

The Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) paid the second installment of the 2026 individual income‑tax refunds, releasing a total of R$ 16 billion. The batch covered 9,585,797 taxpayers, making it the largest disbursement in the program’s history. About 835,800 more people received refunds than in the previous payment, thanks to faster data processing and increased automation. Priority groups included seniors aged 60‑79 (1,106,923 people), teachers (507,768), seniors over 80 (155,060), and those with serious illnesses or disabilities (106,294). Payments were made directly to bank accounts or Pix‑linked CPF keys.

Separately, Receita Federal opened consultation for a special “automatic” refund batch on 8 July 2026. This “cash‑back” round targets roughly 4 million taxpayers who were not required to file a return but had income‑tax withholding in 2024. Each eligible person can receive up to R$ 1,000, with an estimated total of R$ 500 million to be paid on 15 July 2026 via Pix. The automatic system uses existing tax‑withholding data to generate a simplified declaration, reducing bureaucracy and ensuring people receive money they might otherwise miss.
