Brazil's Receita Federal launches cashback tax refund consultation
On July 8, the Receita Federal opened at 9 a.m. a consultation for the first special “cashback” lot of the 2026 Individual Income Tax (IRPF) restitution. The pilot program automatically refunds taxpayers who were not required to file a 2025 return but had income‑tax withheld in 2024. An estimated 3.5‑4 million people are expected to receive up to R$1,000 each, amounting to roughly R$460‑500 million in total. Payments are scheduled for July 15 and will be deposited directly into the beneficiary’s Pix key linked to their CPF.
Eligibility requires a regular CPF, a Pix key registered by the end of June 2026, and proof of tax withheld in 2024. About 500,000 eligible taxpayers may miss the refund because they lack a Pix key or have an irregular CPF. The consultation can be performed through the Receita Federal portal or its mobile app, where users can view and, if necessary, adjust the automatically generated declaration. This “cashback” lot is separate from the regular IRPF restitution calendar; the next regular lot is set for July 31.
