Brazil's Federal Revenue launches special automatic tax refund for non‑filers

On 15 July 2026 Brazil's Federal Revenue (Receita Federal) began paying a special automatic “cashback” refund to taxpayers who did not file their 2025 Income Tax return because they were not required to, but had tax withheld in 2024. About 3.5 million people are expected to receive up to R$ 1,000 each, amounting to roughly R$ 460 million in total. Payments are made directly to the taxpayer’s Pix account linked to their CPF.

The refund is generated from existing Receita data, creating a simplified return without any action from the taxpayer. Recipients can verify eligibility on the Receita Federal website or mobile app. This special batch is separate from the regular 2026 refund schedule; the next regular batch is slated for 31 July. In Mato Grosso do Sul, an extra lot covered 63,800 eligible contributors, illustrating the program’s nationwide rollout.
