Brazil's rural credit delinquency remains high while China expands inclusive loans
In Brazil, the delinquency rate on rural credit for individual producers held at 7.5% in June 2026, a slight decline from 7.6% the month before, while arrears among agribusiness firms stayed at 0.8%. Experts say the high level is likely to persist through 2027, with a possible reduction only after that year, and warn it could affect input purchases for the 2026/27 harvest season.
In China, inclusive rural credit grew 7.55% in the first half of 2026, reaching a balance of 14.99 trillion yuan. The average interest rate on new loans fell to 4.02%, down 0.36 percentage points from the previous year. New regulatory guidelines doubled the micro‑credit ceiling for families that have left poverty and encouraged banks to grant loans based on credit reputation rather than collateral. Credit to the grain sector rose 15.81%, and total grain production in the summer of 2026 surpassed 150 million kilograms for the first time.
