Brazil's Senator Fávaro says EU meat embargo to be lifted by September

Senator and former agriculture minister Carlos Fávaro told reporters that the Brazilian government aims to resolve the European Union's suspension of meat imports before the September deadline. The EU announced in May that it would block Brazilian beef and other meat products over concerns that the country has not provided sufficient proof of controls on antibiotic use in livestock.

Fávaro said Brazil is ready to meet the EU's requirements, including removing antibiotics from production if demanded, and that he has raised the issue with President Luiz Inácio Lula. Negotiations between Brazilian officials and EU representatives are ongoing, with the goal of preserving access to the European market for Brazilian exporters.
