Brazil's Soy Output Limited to Sub‑1% Growth as El Niño Spurs Household Preparedness

The El Niño climate phenomenon is expected to cause severe weather fluctuations across Brazil, prompting both authorities and citizens to adopt emergency measures. Guidance advises residents to monitor forecasts, create emergency kits with water, food, medical supplies, and secure homes against flooding and landslides.

At the same time, analysts from Safras & Mercado project that Brazil’s soy harvest for the 2026/27 season will increase by less than 1%, despite a record‑large planted area of 49.1 million hectares. Tight margins, higher fertilizer costs and the anticipated El Niño impact during critical growth months are expected to limit productivity, with average yields forecast at about 3,686 kg/ha.
