Brazil's state fire services appoint first female colonels in Piauí and Rio Grande do Sul

In the state of Piauí, Governor Rafael Fonteles promoted Ana Cléia to the rank of colonel, making her the first woman to reach the highest rank in the Piauí Military Fire Corps. The ceremony on 3 May also marked the corps' largest investment ever, with more than R$ 20 million in new vehicles, equipment and the promotion of 77 other officers and enlisted members.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the Military Fire Corps promoted Cristiane Nunes de Oliveira to colonel, becoming the first woman to hold the top command post in that state. Oliveira, who has served in various operational and administrative roles since joining the brigade in 2006, previously became the first female lieutenant‑colonel in 2022. Both promotions are highlighted as historic milestones for gender representation in Brazil's public safety forces.
