Lula targets 6x1 work reform and STF changes in election runoff

Following the first round of the 2026 presidential election, where Flávio Bolsonaro led with 47.03% of the vote, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has intensified his campaign strategy for the second round. Lula has adopted a new digital communication approach, using selfie-style videos on TikTok and Instagram to connect with voters.

A central pillar of his campaign is the proposal to end the 6x1 work schedule, advocating for a 5x2 model (five days of work and two days of rest) without salary reductions. Lula has challenged Flávio Bolsonaro and the Liberal Party (PL) to support this reform, framing the upcoming Senate vote as a political test. Conversely, Flávio Bolsonaro opposes the mandate, favoring a flexible model where workers and employers negotiate hours directly.

Simultaneously, Lula has criticized the Supreme Federal Court (STF), citing concerns over institutional “promiscuity” following allegations involving Banco Master and its owner, Daniel Vorcaro. He has proposed judicial reforms, including changing the method for appointing STF ministers and potentially introducing fixed terms for justices. STF President Edson Fachin has responded by asserting the Court's stability and its essential role in preserving democracy.
