Brazil's Supreme Court orders Bolsonaro to explain seized firearm

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes gave the defense of former President Jair Bolsonaro 24 hours to clarify why a 9 mm Glock pistol and a spare magazine, seized in a police blitz in Taguatinga, Federal District on 15 June, were in his possession. The vehicle was stopped by the Military Police, and the driver, who identified himself as a staff member of the President's Institutional Security Office, claimed the weapon was handed to him for repair.

Moraes also asked the commander of the 19th Military Police Battalion to confirm whether the court‑ordered searches of vehicles leaving Bolsonaro’s residence, including official security cars, are being fully complied with. Bolsonaro has been under house arrest since 24 March after being convicted of involvement in a coup plot and sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison.
