Brazil's SUS expands mental health services and professional recruitment

The Brazilian Agency for Support to the Management of the SUS (AgSUS) has launched a selection process for psychologists to join the AgSUS Acolhedora Program. Selected professionals will receive a monthly salary of R$8,800.00 plus benefits, including food and meal allowances, transportation vouchers, and health and wellness assistance, for a 40-hour work week. Applications for this reserve registry are open from September 4 to September 18, 2026, for graduates with active registration in the Regional Council of Psychology (CRP).

In addition to professional recruitment, the Unified Health System (SUS) provides free psychological support through the Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS). These specialized units are part of the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) and offer services for individuals experiencing mental distress or disorders, including those related to substance use. Patients can access CAPS directly via an open-door policy or through a referral from a Basic Health Unit (UBS). CAPS teams utilize multidisciplinary approaches to develop individualized therapeutic plans and promote social reintegration.
