Brazil launches health campaign on online betting risks
On 26 July 2026 Brazil’s Ministry of Health began the National Campaign for Prevention of Online Betting Harm, broadcasting the message on television, radio and social media as the Brasileirão season resumed. The campaign warns that problem gambling affects roughly 1.2 % of the adult population and highlights the availability of mental‑health support through the public health system (SUS). Citizens are directed to the Meu SUS Digital app, where a Miniapps‑based questionnaire can trigger tele‑attendance or referral to in‑person services.
In parallel, the Ministry of Finance has opened more than one hundred administrative processes against online‑betting operators since the sector’s regulated launch in 2025. Of the 39 cases already concluded, 32 ended with warnings and seven with fines, bringing total penalties to nearly R$ 11 million. The law allows fines up to R$ 2 billion per infraction (0.1‑20 % of a company’s revenue) and license revocation costs of R$ 30 million, though revocations have not been applied. The operator Blaze was fined R$ 2.3 million, about 0.2 % of its R$ 1.1 billion revenue.
The Centralised Self‑Exclusion Platform, launched in December 2025, recorded an average of 17 866 daily CPF‑blocking requests between 15 and 28 June, up from 2 594 in early May, with more than one million users having signed up.
