Brazil prepares for 2026 elections amid campaign irregularities

As Brazil prepares for the 2026 general elections, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has reported 51,395 complaints of irregular campaigning via the Pardal app. The most frequent violation involves irregular advertising on public roads, accounting for 43.78% of reports. São Paulo has recorded the highest number of complaints with 10,388 cases.

To facilitate voting, the TSE has enhanced the e-Título app, which allows voters to consult polling stations, justify absences via geolocation, and pay electoral debts. For the first time, the app can be downloaded and activated on election day. Voters with registered biometrics can use e-Título as an official ID.

Authorities have issued several warnings: the use of mobile phones and electronic devices is strictly prohibited inside voting booths to ensure secrecy. Additionally, the illegal distribution of campaign materials (santinhos) on streets is a crime that can result in fines between R$ 2,000 and R$ 8,000. In Acre, voting will occur from 6:00 to 15:00 local time to align with Brasília's national schedule.
