Kassio Nunes Marques drives Brazil TSE AI pact and election oversight

Brazil’s electoral authority, the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE), and political parties signed a commitment to ensure the responsible use of artificial intelligence and combat disinformation ahead of the October elections. President of the TSE, Minister Kassio Nunes Marques, said the digital environment will be a major challenge and emphasized collaborative effort.

Nunes Marques was also honored by the Câmara Legislativa do Distrito Federal with the title of Honorary Citizen of Brasília, recognizing his judicial career and role in strengthening national institutions.

The TSE scheduled a vote on a case brought by the Electoral Prosecutor’s Office seeking the cassation of three Goiás state deputies for alleged gender‑quota fraud. Nunes Marques retained the case as relator, contrary to standard procedure.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court issued an alert to TSE President Nunes Marques and Vice‑President André Mendonça over concerns about impartiality in the 2024 elections, citing past votes that favored former President Jair Bolsonaro.
