Brazil's TSE debunks false claims about electronic voting machines

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has debunked false claims circulating on social media regarding the operation of electronic voting machines. Misleading content suggests that voters must wait for a specific message, “Confirma o seu voto” (Confirm your vote), to appear before pressing the green button, or else their vote will be annulled.

In reality, the machine displays the message “Confira seu voto” (Check your vote) at the bottom of the screen for one second after a candidate's number is entered. This feature, implemented since the 2022 elections, is designed to allow voters to verify the displayed data. During this brief interval, the green “Confirma” button is temporarily inactive.

If a voter presses the button during this second, the action simply has no effect at that moment. Once the interval passes, the voter can press the button normally to register their choice. The TSE clarifies that there is no mechanism in the electronic voting machine that would cancel or lose a vote due to the timing of the button press.
