Breast cancer awareness month emphasizes early detection in Poland

October is designated as breast cancer awareness month in Poland, with medical experts emphasizing that early detection is critical for effective treatment. Specialists note that mammography can identify tumors as small as a few millimeters, often before symptoms appear.

In the Łódź region, mobile mammography units are scheduled to make 111 stops this month to increase accessibility. Approximately 17,000 screening appointments are currently available in the region over the next three months. Experts highlight that while lifestyle factors play a role, only 5–10% of cases are linked to genetic factors, making regular screening essential for all women.

In Poland, more than 21,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, with roughly 50 women receiving a diagnosis every day. Medical professionals urge women, particularly those aged 45–74, to utilize available screening services and to remain vigilant regarding any physical changes.
