Breast cancer projections for 2026 show rising cases in Paraná and Cuiabá
Estimates from the National Cancer Institute (INCA) project significant breast cancer trends in Brazil for 2026. In the state of Paraná, approximately 4,300 new cases are expected, with 820 of those occurring in Curitiba.
In Mato Grosso, the capital city of Cuiabá is expected to have a higher incidence rate than the state average. Cuiabá is projected to see 240 new cases, representing 65.76 diagnoses per 100,000 women, compared to the state's estimated 930 cases and a rate of 47.41 per 100,000.
In response to these projections and the 'Pink October' awareness campaign, health authorities are intensifying prevention efforts. In Cuiabá, the Municipal Health Secretariat is offering up to 3,000 mammographies and ultrasounds through existing regulation queues. Health units are also conducting active searches for women aged 25 to 64 to update cervical cancer screenings and those aged 50 to 74 for mammography protocols.
