Breast cancer recurrence prevention remains a priority in Brazil

Breast cancer remains a major public health challenge in Brazil, with an estimated 78,610 new cases per year expected between 2026 and 2028. While early diagnosis and treatment offer high cure rates, the risk of disease recurrence persists for years, impacting patients' social, economic, and emotional well-being.

The hormone receptor-positive/HER2-negative (RH+/HER2-) subtype is the most common, accounting for approximately 70% of cases. Within the Unified Health System (SUS), endocrine therapy has historically been a primary adjuvant strategy. However, high-risk patients face a significant threat, as roughly 50% experience recurrence even five years after diagnosis.

Medical professionals emphasize the need for comprehensive long-term care to reduce recurrence risks. For high-risk RH+/HER2- patients, cyclin inhibitors are identified as a relevant therapeutic class in modern oncology, necessitating expanded access to these treatment options.
