Universal Pictures announces The Mummy: Book of the Dead

Universal Pictures has officially titled the fourth installment of its adventure franchise “The Mummy: Book of the Dead,” with a theatrical release scheduled for October 15, 2027. The film marks the highly anticipated reunion of original stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who will reprise their roles as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell.

Production is currently underway, with filming taking place in London and Morocco. Recent set photos have captured the leads in period-appropriate attire, signaling a return to the continuity established in the first two films. This new entry will reportedly ignore the events of the 2008 sequel, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” effectively serving as a direct follow-up to 2001’s “The Mummy Returns.”

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the Radio Silence collective, the film features a screenplay by David Coggeshall. The returning cast includes John Hannah, Oded Fehr, and Kevin J. O’Connor, alongside new additions Michael Johnston and Numan Acar. Franchise veteran Sean Daniel returns to produce.
