The Mummy 4 casting and production

Overview

In early August 2026, Universal Pictures announced the fourth installment of the franchise, slated for an October 15, 2027, release. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (the filmmaking collective Radio Silence) with a script by David Coggeshall, the film is positioned as a direct follow-up to ‘The Mummy Returns’ (2001), notably ignoring the 2008 third film, ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’. The project aims to recapture the action-adventure and horror tone of the original entries while prioritizing practical effects and traditional makeup over CGI. Production is scheduled to begin later in 2026 in London and Morocco. The confirmed cast includes the return of original leads Brendan Fraser as Rick O'Connell, Rachel Weisz as Evelyn Carnahan, and John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan. Veteran actors Kevin J. O'Connor (Beni Gabor) and Oded Fehr (Ardeth Bay) are also confirmed to reprise their roles. New cast members include Numan Acar, Michael Johnston, and Egyptian actress Tara Emad in a leading role. Reports have indicated that Arnold Vosloo may reprise his role as Imhotep, though Universal Pictures has not officially confirmed his involvement. In September 2026, Brendan Fraser drew attention at the London premiere of his film ‘Pressure’ after displaying a more athletic and slender physique, which he attributed to an intense physical training regimen for his upcoming role in the adventure saga. By late September 2026, production officially commenced in the United Kingdom. Set photos from filming in Suffolk, England, show Brendan Fraser in a black leather jacket and helmet operating a silver and red rocket-powered vehicle during what appears to be a 1957-set speed trial. In mid-October 2026, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were photographed filming together in London, marking their first time sharing the screen in 25 years.
