Brenner railway line suspended July 18‑August 1, buses replace trains

From Saturday 18 July to Saturday 1 August 2024, the Brenner railway line will undergo maintenance and infrastructure upgrades carried out by RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) and ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG. Train services are suspended on the Bolzano‑Brenner section on 18 July and on the Bressanone‑Brenner section from 19 July to 1 August. Parallel works affect the Italian stretch between Peri and Domegliara (20‑26 July) and the Austrian segment from Brenner to Gries‑am‑Brenner for the whole period, as well as Steinach‑am‑Brenner to Innsbruck (23 July‑1 August). Throughout the closures, regional trains are replaced by buses stopping at every station, with a direct non‑stop link between Bressanone and Fortezza for faster journeys. Long‑distance services are also impacted: Frecciarossa Milan‑Bolzano and Pescara‑Bolzano are cancelled 20‑26 July, and Naples‑Rome‑Verona‑Bolzano connections are either cancelled or limited to Verona Porta Nuova, along with Intercity 610/611 between Lecce/Bari and Bolzano. Trenitalia says overall travel times should remain roughly unchanged despite the alterations.
