Brent Chapman leaves B. C. Conservatives for One BC

Surrey South MLA Brent Chapman has announced his departure from the Conservative Party of B. C. to join One BC. In a statement, Chapman cited fundamental disagreements regarding the party’s principles and platform compared to when he first ran in 2024.

Chapman noted that internal caucus disagreements and public disputes made his position difficult to maintain. He also highlighted the personal impact of the party's recent turmoil, specifically mentioning the treatment of his wife, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, who stepped down as the Conservative Party of B. C. leader on September 20. The party has recently seen 14 MLAs leave the caucus through resignation or dismissal.

One BC, the party Chapman is joining, advocates for several policy shifts, including a 50% tax cut on income under $100,000, stricter immigration controls, and the removal of certain social and indigenous rights frameworks.
