Lombardy reports surge in workplace accidents and occupational diseases

Data from the first half of 2026 reveals a significant rise in workplace accidents and occupational diseases across the Lombardy region of Italy. According to INAIL reports analyzed by UIL Lombardia, total accident reports exceeded 60,000, marking a 6.9% increase compared to the same period last year and surpassing the national average.

Occupational diseases have also seen a sharp rise, increasing by 11.8% to nearly 2,900 cases. There has been a particularly dramatic surge in reports related to psychological and behavioral disorders, which rose by 73.7%, alongside an acceleration in musculoskeletal pathologies.

Fatalities remain a critical concern, with 75 reported deaths in the first six months, averaging one worker fatality every 2.4 days. The increase in accidents is widespread across various provinces, including Milan, Pavia, Monza and Brianza, Bergamo, Brescia, and Cremona. Vulnerable groups are also affected, with a 10.6% increase in accidents among workers born outside the European Union.
