In Pesaro e Urbino, fatal workplace accidents rose from two to five between January and July 2026 compared to the previous year, while occupational disease reports in the province increased by 22.5%. Conversely, the Abruzzo region saw a decrease in fatal accidents, though commuting accidents there rose by 19.4%, significantly outpacing the national commuting accident increase of 7%.
Nationally, the first seven months of 2026 saw 368,085 reported accidents, a 5.3% increase from the previous year. Fatal accidents saw a slight national decrease of 2.0%, but commuting accidents rose to 66,149 cases. The economic impact remains severe; an INAIL report estimates that workplace accidents and occupational diseases cost the Italian economy 49.2 billion euros in 2023, roughly 2.31% of the national GDP.
