Dutch tourist missing after diving to save son in Lake Como
A 45‑year‑old Dutch tourist disappeared in the waters of Lake Como near Menaggio after diving to rescue his 16‑year‑old son, who was in difficulty. The son was pulled to safety by a passer‑by on a stand‑up paddle board. The father vanished in a section where the lake floor drops rapidly from about 25 m to over 100 m. A large rescue operation was launched, involving the Italian Coast Guard, fire brigades from Menaggio and Como, multiple helicopter units, and dive teams from Milan and Torino. The 112 emergency call was received around 12:30 p.m., and search teams have been conducting surface and deep‑water searches with sonar and submersible equipment. As of the latest reports, no trace of the man has been found and the searches continue day and night.
