BRI to enable online UMKM registration; Malaysia earmarks RM80bn for PMKS boost

Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) plans to roll out a fully digital registration process for micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) through its BRImo mobile app by 2026. Entrepreneurs will be able to submit personal and business data, upload supporting documents and sign agreements digitally, aiming to cut bureaucracy, shorten approval times and improve access to financing.

In Malaysia, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) has allocated almost RM80 billion in the 2026 budget to strengthen the PMKS sector. The funding targets first‑time borrowers and includes 13 strategic actions and 56 initiatives focused on fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, building an innovation‑friendly ecosystem, and raising productivity, addressing long‑standing challenges such as low technology adoption and limited value‑added activities.

Both initiatives seek to enhance the competitiveness of small enterprises in their respective countries, though they differ in approach—digital registration in Indonesia and broad financial and capacity‑building programmes in Malaysia.
