Southeast Asian MSME support initiatives

Overview

In mid-2026, Southeast Asian nations implemented various measures to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). In Indonesia, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) announced plans to launch a digital registration process for UMKM via its BRImo mobile app to reduce bureaucracy and improve financing access.

Simultaneously, Malaysia focused on large-scale financial and capacity-building support for its PMKS sector. The Malaysian government earmarked nearly RM80 billion in its 2026 budget to foster innovation and productivity. This support extended to regional levels, such as in Pahang, where the state government distributed grants through the Usahawan Makmur Program and the SIRIM Technopreneur Enterprise Program (STEP) to assist entrepreneurs with product quality, branding, and production capacity.
