Brians 2 prison staff protest for increased security
Approximately 200 prison officials held a protest at the Brians 2 penitentiary center to demand increased security and better protection against workplace violence. The demonstration follows a violent incident last Sunday where a visitor attacked a staff member in the visiting area, causing injuries to the employee and an 86-year-old bystander who attempted to intervene.
Union representatives, including Miguel Pueyo and the Marea Blava collective, have denounced the systemic insecurity within Catalan prisons. They argue that assaults have become a daily reality rather than exceptional occurrences. The unions are calling for several structural changes, including increasing staff numbers, implementing a partner-based work system, granting officials more authority to enforce regulations, and establishing permanent bans for violent visitors across all national prison facilities.
