BRICS judicial leaders convene in New Delhi for forum

The BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum opened in New Delhi, bringing together senior judicial leaders from BRICS member states and partner countries to discuss strengthening international legal cooperation. The three-day event, hosted by the Supreme Court of India, focuses on topics such as mediation, arbitration, commercial courts, and the integration of artificial intelligence in justice delivery.

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant held bilateral meetings to discuss potential Memoranda of Understanding for judicial cooperation and the mutual recognition of judicial awards. He emphasized the role of efficient commercial courts in fostering foreign investor confidence and the importance of expeditious judicial processes.

Representing Belarus, Supreme Court Chairman Andrei Shved participated in the forum, engaging in meetings with judicial leaders from Iran and Russia. Shved discussed legal assistance in civil and criminal matters with Iran’s Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei and explored further cooperation with Russia’s Chief Justice Igor Krasnov, specifically regarding the digitalization of court processes and the use of information technology in judicial activities.
